A pioneer in the fields of architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, planning, and psychology -- Dr. Sharon Sutton, FAIA holds three master's degrees and a PhD. She is currently a Professor of Architecture and Urban Design, Adjunct Professor of Social Work, and Director for the Center of Environment, Education, and Design Studies at the University of Washington.

The extraordinary Dr. Sutton was the first African American woman in the US promoted to full professor in an accredited professional degree program in architecture. The American Institute of Architects has awarded her with honors twice, but architecture is actually her second career. She first had a career as a French Horn player, performing in the orchestras of world-renowned ballets such as the Bolshoi, Royal and Leningrad. She was inspired to preserve a turn-of-the-century brownstone while working as a musician and that was the start of a whole new direction.
